When might coaching serve my needs?
Coaching will bring benefits to you in so many different situations. Underlying themes to many of these are (i) self-awareness and unlocking of your potential and (ii) successfully managing yourself through changes, both those that you are in charge of and those that you are responding to.
Increasing self awareness and unlocking your potential
Through a coaching experience you will gain…
-
an opportunity to reflect on your values and beliefs
-
an appreciation of your motivations and whether they are being satisfied
-
an awareness of how your emotions and behaviours are influencing those around you
-
time and space to think about the things that really matter to you with a coach who will challenge without judgement
-
a chance to develop solutions by thinking about them from a fresh perspective
-
increased self confidence
Thriving in a changing environment
The ICF define coaching as partnering with clients in a thought-provoking and creative process that inspires them to maximize their personal and professional potential.
A coaching experience will be an asset to you if you want to…
-
Rationalise your response to change and adapt to make the experience a positive one for you
-
Lead yourself and a team through a period of change, whether disruptive or more incremental
-
Change your ways of working to better marry your motivations with your current responsibilities
-
Consider changing your career pathway to better match your current and future needs
-
Manage yourself through a particular transition (the first months of a new position at work, a geographical relocation, a change in a professional or private relationship)
-
Create a time and space to reflect on where you are at, where you want to be, and to plot a path between the two.

Thriving in a changing environment
Coaching conversations are so often enhanced by using images as metaphors. One of my coachees saw in this picture that never mind how unrelated two ideas might be there is always interconnection between them, something that draws them together. The pictorial metaphor opened up a new way of viewing the problem for them which really helped to achieve a way forward. A fantastic outcome!
